Kensington Stakes 2021 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

A field of 10 runners have accepted for this years edition of the Kensington Stakes.  Five of these are first-up in the race and only two have had a start in the last 30 days.  The early favourite in the race is the Western Australian Fabergino.  She notched up her first win in Victoria leading all the way on December 12.  The second favourite is Pandemic.  He has won 5 races and was an impressive winner of the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield last start.  Prezado finished second to Fabergino at his last start and gets a 1.5kg weight swing on her this time around.

Sword Of Mercy is unbeaten this preparation and has just 54kg to carry here with an inform Damian Lane aboard.  Halvorsen has won 2 of his 4 first-up starts and we are expecting a bold showing from him.  Seemingly Discreet is another with a strong winning strike rate and Bons Away will be looking to notch up her first win at headquarters at the age of 7.  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

Kensington Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Fabergino

This 6 year old mare has had a month off since winning at this track/trip. She has won 8 races from 12 starts over the 1000m distance and has missed a place only once. She is 2 wins from 3 starts down the Flemington straight and is clearly one of the major chances.

2. Prezado

Jamie Kah sticks with Prezado after he finished second to Fabergino at his last start.  He is drawn in barrier 10 which looks a positive as it is often an advantage to draw wide down the straight.  He loves racing on his home track and is ready to peak third up.

3. Bons Away

Bon’s Away resumes.  He is has a strong finish on his day but it is a while since he has been won.  He does go well first up but prefer to see him.

4. Halvorsen

We haven’t seen Halvorsen at the races since February but he is a talented sprinter with a strong winning strike rate.  The stable is flying and it would not surprise to see him be right in the finish here.

5. Milwaukee

It has been a little over 6 months since Milwaukee had his last run.  He saves his best racing for Flemington but all his wins have come over further.  May need the run first up.

6. Pandemic

Made the switch from Sydney to Melbourne last start and was an impressive Caulfield winner when heavily backed.  He knows how to put a race away and can measure up here.

7. Great Duchess

This five year old mare is first up.  She produced 2 wins and a placing in her 4 starts last preparation but may find these a little bit to slick first up.  She is better over further.

8. Sword Of Mercy

Talented sprinter who has won 2 in a row to start this campaign.  Like her drawn in 7 and she gets the in form Damian Lane who won on her here first up.  One of the each way hopes.

9. Mister Mogul

Another first up in the race.  Has 1 win and 1 second from his 2 Flemington runs, however these were at benchmark level.  Likely to be out classed here.

10. Seemingly Discreet

Seemingly Discreet has had some time off since running in the Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley on November 28.  She finished fourth there but was weakening late.  Prefer to watch her first up.
