Carbine Club Stakes 2020 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

A small field of eight three year olds will line up for this years race.  As is usually the case for this race most of these three year olds had their last start in one of two key leads up – the Gothic Stakes or the Caulfield Guineas.  These two races have produced four of the last five winners.  Aysar ran second in the Caulfield Guineas and he heads the betting as an early favourite.  His stable mate is Crosshaven and he also comes via the Guineas form line.  He finished fourth and that was a good effort considering he was caught wide for much of the trip.

Endanger is prepared by the Freedmans and he has been set for the race.  He comes through the Gothic Stakes form line.  Embolism was dominant in a benchmark 70 race at Caulfield and looks a nice horse in the making.  So Let’s Toast has had two fitness builders and is ready to peak here third up.  The remaining runners are $20-1 or longer.

Carbine Club Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Crosshaven

Sat three wide outside a strong speed in the Caulfield Guineas and stuck on well to be beaten under three lengths.  Should be able to find the lead here and get a much easier time of it.  He is going to take some catching.

2. Endanger

The three year old gelding looks sets to peak here third up.  He has been strong through the line at each of his runs and it looks like the 1600m will suit him.  He is one of the key chances.

3. Aysar

Looked the winner in the Guineas before the Sydney Colt Ole Kirk collared him on the line.  He brings in the strongest form and if he can get the splits from an inside barrier he will be right in the finish.

4. Embolism

The blinkers went on at Caulfield and he dually made a mess of his rivals.  This is a big step up but he is progressive and the O’Brien/Oliver pairing are flying.

5. Just a Tribute

He was an eye catcher from the back here at Flemington two starts ago.  Back onto the bigger track will suit and with the winkers going on could get into a place late at big odds.

6. Fender Bender

Stable mate of Just a Tribute and he too gets the winkers for the first time.   He trys hard but not sure he is good enough to be matching it with these.

7. So Let’s Toast

Another who looks set to peak third up.  He was good from the rear at Caulfield and his racing pattern should be suited to Flemington.  An Each Way chance at good odds.

8. Horrifying

Two seconds in Bendigo maidens is not likely good enough to be beating these.
