Canterbury Sprint 2023 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Good

I Am Me looks hard to beat shooting for 4 straight wins. Tommy Berry will need some luck from the barrier but it is the clear horse to beat and the market reflects that. Dragonstone has been having a solid prep without much luck and can pose a challenge while Spaceboy has been mixing its form but its best efforts can see it go close here. Invincible Kiss goes on top at the odds. It has 2 lengths to find on the favourite but maps well and is large odds at the $41.00 mark.

Canterbury Sprint 2023 Runner by Runner

1. Ranges (7)

Needs luck from the barrier but should be strips fitter 2nd up and has an excellent place rate across its career. Needs to find a length or two to threaten the favourite but can run a nice race in this field. Keep safe.

2. Vangelic (8)

Didn’t do much last prep but that was in some competitive races. Keep an eye on the market, the best version of Vangelic would give this a shake but I would like to see a market push before considering.

3. I Am Me (10)

Continues to win in excellent fashion and Dehorned Unicorn sh0uld give a nice form gauge on Saturday. I Am Me now has to deal with a wide draw and Tommy Berry is a query riding after having time off but it is the horse to beat. The $1.80 is fair enough but also short enough.

4. Southern Lad (1)

Barrier 1 isn’t ideal for its running pattern and it hasn’t won for a long time. Wouldn’t completely shock but hard to back.

5. Dragonstone (4)

Has been racing well without much luck this prep and maps for a nice run from barrier 4. Dragonstone has a good record with Schiller aboard and if the favourite is off its game it can give this a shake.

6. Surreal Step (5)

Yet to find the placings this prep. Prefer in something easier.

7. Snippy Fox (9)

Solid horse when able to dictate terms in front. Loves this trip and is a first up winner, the market will be a vital guide late to its chances fresh so keep an eye on any moves.

8. Much Much Better (6)

Not much luck fresh and should get more clear air in this race with less runners. More effective when resuming than 2nd up but still a player in this field. Top 4 hope.

9. Spaceboy (2)

Seems to be back on track this prep and has been racing well. Lloyd is in excellent form and Spaceboy should get first look at the lead. This race is within reach.

10. Invincible Kiss (3)

The outsider Invincible Kiss goes on top. Has to find 2 lengths on I Am Me and defy a weight swing but did come from a wide draw that day and sat outside leader. If the speed is on Jones can sit just off them and it maps far better than the favourite. With only 2 lengths separating them last start I couldn’t work out why Invincible Kiss is 50x the price.
