Our Flemington Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

There are four Group 1 races and the main race is the $2,000,000 Victoria Derby. Read our 2020 Victoria Derby Preview.

Octane (Flemington Race 3 No. 9)
This I Am Invincible gelding trained by Phillip Stokes has won seven of his 15 starts. He won three races in a row before he was steadied and held up a couple of times before an unlucky 1.6 lengths 4th over 1100m at Caulfield on 19 September, then he chased hard closing the entire straight for 0.1, 0.2 lengths 3rd in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield on 10 October. He won his only start at this track so can handle the straight track and looks well-placed here.

Salto Angel (Flemington Race 2 No. 6):
Trained by Danny O’Brien, this filly has raced four times and been runner-up at her last three. She chased hard to the line for 1.25 lengths 2nd in the Oaks Trial over 1800m at Flemington on 23 September, then jumped awkwardly and knuckled, was slightly held up at the 250m then eased wider and ran on strongly for 1.75 lengths 2nd in the Group 2 Ethereal Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield on 17 October. She was lame after that race. If she gets a better start this time she should be a good each-way bet.

Schabau (Flemington Race 4 No. 10):
This six-year-old stallion trained by Robert Hickmott is the early favourite in the Group 3 Hotham Handicap over 2500m. He is currently 40th in the Melbourne Cup order of entry and like most runners in this race needs to win if he is to get a start next Tuesday. He over-raced in the first half of the race before finishing 0.2, 0.75 lengths 3rd over 2500m at Flemington on 12 September, then chased hard out wide for 1.6 lengths 4th in the Group 3 Bart Cummings over 2510 at Flemington on 3 October. This will be a very hard race to win.
