A field of 13 have accepted for the $1,500,000 David Jones Australian Derby. The early favourite is Silent Achiever, the only filly in the field, who won the New Zealand Derby in March then ran a close 3rd in the Rosehill Guineas after covering a heap of extra ground. Close behind in the betting is Laser Hawk who won the Rosehill Guineas, then 2nd placegetter Ocean Park. Connections paid a late entry fee of $40,000 for Ocean Park and it would be no surprise if the first 3 home in the Rosehill Guineas were the first 3 home here.
Other good chances are Rekindled Alliance, who has ran 2nd at his last 2 starts at Group 2 level, Polish Knight who won the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes over 2000 metres last start, Ethiopia who is still a maiden but ran 2nd in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes over 2040 metres last start, and Strike The Stars who ran 5th in the Rosehill Guineas.
The following are the top 4 selections from our tipster panel for this years race.
