Australian Derby Preview & Tips 2018
Track: Good Weather: Overcast
There is a full field of 18 runners plus 2 emergencies for the $2,000,000 Harrolds Australian Derby. Eleven of them had their last start in the Rosehill Guineas on 24 March and eight had their last start in the Tulloch Stakes on 31 March. The betting is fairly open and the favourite is Victoria Derby winner Ace High who had a tough run when 6th in the Rosehill Guineas. Second favourite is Furore who won his first 4 starts before 3rd in the Rosehill Guineas. Third favourite is Kiwi raider Vin De Dance who won the NZ Derby before he was 2nd past the post in the Rosehill Guineas but was relegated to 4th for interference.
Belfast is a good staying type who finished 5th in the Tulloch Stakes. Mission Hill and Mongolianconqueror are Kiwis who ran 6th and 2nd in the NZ Derby then 7th and 8th in the Rosehill Guineas and should both run well. Levendi won the Tulloch Stakes last week. All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.
The following are the top 4 selections from our tipster panel for this years race.
|2 Vin De Dance|
|1 Ace High|
