2018 Melbourne Cup Preview & Tips:
Track: Good Weather: Fine
A full field of 24, including one mare, will line up for the $7,050,000 2018 Lexus Melbourne Cup. Chris Waller and Aidan O’Brien have 3 runners each and Michael Moroney has 2. Godolphin have 3 runners and Lloyd Williams has 2. The betting is fairly open and the early favourite is Herbert Power Stakes winner Yucatan who is one of 3 runners for Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien. Second favourite is Cross Counter who is the most lightly-raced horse in the field – but so was last year’s winner. Third favourite is Magic Circle who has won over longer distances than any other horse in the field.
Muntahaa comes off a strong win in the Ebor Handicap at York. Best Solution won the Caulfield Cup and is a lovely type of horse for this. Avilius has won 4 of his 5 starts in Australia. The Cliffsofmoher was 3rd in the Caulfield Cup but has beat the favourite in the past. Marmelo was equal favourite for the Melbourne Cup last year where he finished 9th. A Prince Of Arran put in an impressive display to win the Lexus Stakes on Saturday. Youngstar is the only mare in the race and is one of Australia’s main hopes here. All other runners are currently 25 to 1 or longer, but as always there are many hopes and a long price doesn’t stop them from winning.
The trifecta and first four should pay heaps so have fun putting your favourites in some multiples.
