The race dates back to a least 1976 when it was at Eagle Farm over 2200m. In 1978 it was won by Regal Peak. Held over 1600m until 2015, 1400m in 2016 and raced over the current 1350m from 2017 onwards. It was held for several years as the Bank of Queensland when it was run over 1600m at Eagle Farm.

In 2021 it was moved from 1350m at Doomben to 1400m at the Gold Coast. However heavy race meant the meeting was abandoned and the race was added to the Doomben program the following Wednesday. That race was also abandoned and the race rescheduled again to the Saturday Doomben meeting with the George Moore Stakes.  It was held at Gold Coast in 2022 and Doomben in 2023.

Interesting trivia: Race not held in 2007. In 2005 there was a dead-heat for the win between Video Hits and Prosecution. Mossman is the sire of Tambo’s Mate (2021 & 2019), Crack Me up (2017) and Absalon (2013).
