Regal Roller Stakes – 2022

Track: Good Weather: Overcast

A wide mix of form in this race with the market being headed by Uncommon James who comes across from Queensland and is putting together a tidy record. Showmanship may improve with the run but has stacks of class and should be giving this a shake. Lombardo has no worries first up and gets along with Zac Spain extremely well and Ranges is coming off a win in the Grafton Cup. Very tricky to line up all the form but a very good edition of the race where the market will likely be a useful guide late.

1. Lombardo (11)

Ticks plenty of boxes in this. Enjoys heavy ground, gets along well with Spain and has a strong first up record. The $8.00 is over the odds and if it has any luck from the draw it will be hard to hold out.

2. Sinawann (8)

Exploded home second up last prep and its tickover trial was a lovely piece of work. I have my doubt on whether it will need the run so the market late should be a useful guide towards its chances. Keep safe.

3. Ranges (10)

Took out the Grafton cup with a very well timed ride by Tom Sherry. That raises a question mark over whether its already had its grand final however if replicating its last start effort then it must be going close here. Solid hope.

4. Open Minded (2)

Unbeaten over the trac and trip and maps to perfection. Thornton has a compelling record aboard however there does look some stronger form lines in this race. Open Minded has the best map out of this lot however does look about the right price at the $9.00 mark.

5. Hi Stranger (4)

A bit too hard to catch these days and well overdue for a win. Has talent but I’d like to see it put another win on the board before considering.

6. Showmanship (1)

Extremely dangerous in this race. The 7 wins from 9 career starts is a compelling stat and is 1/1 at this track. Barrier 1 may not be the best draw for Showmanship but I believe it is the best horse in this race and the one to beat.

7. Felicia (6)

Doesn’t mind this track and trip. It will be hitting the line hard and gets an extremely in form jockey in Craig Williams.

8. Viral (9)

Prefer others.

9. Sartorial Splendor (5)

Consistent and does bring the right form in. Jamie Kah is a handy booking but just the 1 career win from 11 goes on the track remains a bit of a query. Okay hope but would prefer it on a different track.

10. Pindaric (12)

Flies over this trip but does see a sharp rise in grade. Prefer others.

11. Uncommon James (7)

I have always had good wraps on Uncommon James and it has yielded nice profit for us in the best bets this prep. Excited to see how it goes in this company however in absolutely no rush to take the $2.60 on offer. Hard to beat but well under the odds.

12. William Thomas (3)

Off the boil. Can’t have.
