Memsie Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

The big one is here. Tofane looks well placed launching from a nice draw and can fire first up off the back of some excellent trials. Alligator Blood looked back to his best last run and can lead or take a sit. Snapdancer knows where the line is but will need to defy a poor record at Caulfield. Western Empire had no luck last start and can return a winner while Cascadian and I’m Thunderstruck will be flying home late. Tempo will be strong.

1. I’m Thunderstruck (9)

Received an en excellent push from Mick Price mid week. I’m Thunderstruck looks in good order and proved its self on the big stage last prep. The $9 is over the odds, if the gaps come its way it can certainly take this out.

2. Cascadian (7)

Has come of age after being an enigma. A recent trial was simply outstanding and Cascadian always requires luck with its running pattern but can without a doubt take this out.

3. Alligator Blood (1)

Back to his best last run and maps to lead or box seat. Flies over the 1400m and Ollie steers for the first time. Hard to beat and ticks plenty of boxes.

4. Nonconformist (4)

Can run super here fresh. Yes, it’ll improve out in trip but a strong tempo engaged will mean Nonconformist will be flying late. I am not ruling it out at $41.

5. Western Empire (12)

Had absolutely no luck at the end of last prep and the jockey was booked for the poor ride. Lane will need some luck from barrier 12 and this is an enormous task fresh but 7 wins from 13 career starts is a serious feat. Can win, prefer others at prices.

6. Callsign Mav (14)

Respect any market moves from Mav. Comes across the ditch and can run well here.

7. Elephant (11)

Hasn’t been in form lately. Prefer others.

8. Zeyrek (8)

Started to put it together last prep. This looks a nice launching pad for Zeyrek to improve over further. One to keep an eye on.

9. Dragon Leap (2)

Can’t have.

10. Lightsaber (6)

Can show up here fresh from the nice draw but prefer others on form.

11. Illation (12)

A potential star with I Am Bene franking the form since. That being said, the $6.00 is short enough given the wide draw and enormous leap in grade. Can win but I’d prefer better odds. If it wins, superstar…

12. Tofane (3)

Set up is excellent here for Tofane. launches from a good draw, loves the track, goes fine fresh and trialled very well. McNeil should box seat from the barrier and it ticks plenty of boxes in this race. Hard to beat.

13. Duais (10)

Duais should improve over further but gee it was mighty impressive last prep and is a big force in Australian racing. Should be hitting the line hard and is one to follow going forward.

14. Snapdancer (5)

Should land on the speed and give a great sight in this field with the nice draw. I do think others have stronger form lines and Snapdancer has no wins from 4 attempts at the track but it can pinch this if left alone up front.
