Heatherlie Handicap – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

A solid race between the stayers where I have Emissary on top. It ran well fresh and brings in some superb form lines. Jimmy The Bear has gone from strength to strength this prep and will be hard to hold out again. No effort won this race last year and can do it again here while Delphi should receive every chance from the draw and will take some holding out. Just a fair tempo engaged.

1. Spanish Mission (13)

Can’t have it.

2. Delphi (2)

Delphi has really good upside and maps well here. Probably better over further however from barrier 2 John Allen maps to get a great run in transit. Respect any market moves late. It has the class to win this.

3. Sheraz (3)

Probably suited over further but Sheraz has good class and a lot of upside. I think it’ll derive plenty of benefit from the run and can win fresh.

4. Chapada (5)

Not known to fire fresh. prefer others.

5. Daqiansweet Junior (9)

Put in some good performances last prep and has a super turn of foot. Jamie Kah is an eye catching booking.Top 4 chance.

6. Tralee Rose (14)

Superstar when fit and well. I thought she would do a little more fresh but has a stack of class and should be much better for the run. Worth keeping a close eye on the market with Tralee Rose. She is well and truly good enough to be winning.

7. Lunar Flare (8)

Really nice return run from Lunar Flare. The second up record is a little underwhelming, as is the Caulfield one but Michael Dee has had good success aboard and Lunar Flare must be kept safe against this lot.

8. No Effort (4)

Won this race last year and maps a lot better than most of her rivals. 2 wins from 3 goes on the heavy and 2 wins from 3 goes over this trip so No Effort ticks plenty of boxes and looks an excellent each way bet at $11.00

9. Jimmy The Bear (11)

Jimmy is flying and his win the other day was excellent. Looking for three wins on the bounce and while the $5.00 is short enough, he will be hard to hold out yet again.

10. Desert Icon (7)

Has returned super and this race is absolutely within reach. 2 wins from 3 runs second up and loves racing at Caulfield. Well and truly over the odds against this lot.

11. Emissary (12)

Like the chances of Emissary in this. On a dry deck fresh ran right behind Cascadian and Yonkers. That really does look the right form for this. Back to the same track and over a similar trip, if it gets luck from the draw I think it will be winning.

12. La Chevalee (16)

The wetter the better for La Chevalee so conditions will play a role towards its chances. Ethan Brown will need some luck from the draw but he has been riding in good form and the stable have an outstanding record in staying races.

13. Team Captain (10)

Well backed whenever markets open so Team Captain must be flying behind closed doors. Put some wins together last prep and Mcdougall has an excellent record aboard. No wins from 4 attempts at Caulfield and no wins from 4 first up runs is the query.

14. Royal Mile (6)

Good horse on its day but hasn’t won for quite some time. I’d prefer to see Royal Mile in something easier.

15. Adelaide Ace (15)

Can’t have.

16. He’s Our Bonneval (17)

Had high hopes for the Bonneval early but he has been a shade flat the past 2 runs. May need a spell so I am little unsure what to do with him here but he does have a very good turn of foot. Barrier 17 is really tricky. He is going to need some luck.

17. Barbie’s Fox (1)

Strong win last start and gets options from the draw. Harder here but may be able to go on with things now it has found the winners enclosure again.
