Ethereal Stakes – 2021

Track: Slow-Heavy Weather: Showers

There are twelve acceptors for the $200,00 Group 2 Ethereal Stakes.  Three are daughters of Sebring and six are still maidens.  Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock have two runners.  Five had their last run in the Edward Manifold which looks good form now with the quinella in the Thousand Guineas both coming out of that race, three others come via the Oaks Trial.

The early favourite in the betting is Kapalua Sunset.  She broke her maiden at Kyneton last start by seven lengths and is well fancied in the futures betting for the Group 1 Crown Oaks.  Stalking looks a nice staying filly in the making after returning from a let up with a good closing fourth in the Edward Manifold.  Glint Of Hope was third in the same race and draws well here.  Biscayne Bay is sharply up in trip from 1400m.  Mokulua was caught wide last start and battled on okay into sixth considering her tough run.  Daisies gets a positive jockey change with Damian Lane booked to ride.  Adele Amour likes to role forward in her races, while Tiz My Bay closed strongly from the back in the Oaks Trial.  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

1. Biscayne Bay

Daughter of Sebring.  She hit the line well first up at Moonee Valley, then never came into it in the Jim Moloney last time out.  Weary of this stable when they get out to 2000m.  And she could be better on soft ground.

2. Gonnadancealot

Won over 1800m as a two year old but was beaten a long way behind Barb Raider at Flemington first up.  Can’t recommend off that.

3. Stalking

Still a maiden but not sure she will be for much longer.  Loved the way she hit the line over the mile first up in the Edward Manifold.  Barrier one a potential disadvantage here but expecting her to run very well getting out to the 200m for the first time.

4. Adele Amour

Has a win over Barb Raider in a maiden at Sandown three starts ago but I thought she was entitled to stick on better than she did after leading last start.  Have some distance queries as well here.

5. I Like Big Putts

Broke her maiden at Cranbourne two starts ago, then was fourth in a weaker race when in the right section of the track at Moonee Valley last start.  Looks outclassed.

6. Glint Of Hope

Another who is still a maiden.  She was well fancied in the Edward Manifold and ran well finishing third.  Draws perfectly here in barrier seven.  Live each way chance.

7. Mokulua

Battled on okay after racing wide with out cover in the Edward Manifold.  Could be worth another chance here.

8. Tiz My Bay

I thought she was a great run against the bias at Flemington last time out.  Should be close to peak fitness fourth up here.  Roughie with a chance.

9. Khan’s Treasure

Broke her maiden at start seven at Swan Hill on September 27.  She would have to improve many lengths to be a factor here.

10. Kapaluna Sunset

Daughter of Tavistock who bolted in by seven lengths in a Kyneton maiden at start two.  That win rated through the roof and she draws perfectly in barrier five here.  Top pick.

11. Daises

One of the maidens in the race.  She ran on well into sixth in the Edward Manifold last start and gets a big jockey change in Damian Lane for this.  Each way claims.

12. Morrissette

Daughter of Pierro who was solid from the back when fourth behind Barb Raider at Flemington last start.  Out to this distance likely to suit.  Consider for multiples.
