Champions Mile 2023 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Only a small field but this is a quality edition of the the Champions Mile.  It’s no surprise to see the market identify the Cox Plate as the key form reference.  Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood and the unlucky Fangirl all ran terrific races in it and are all $3.50 or shorter here.  Pride Of Jenni on the quick back up is fourth favourite at $15-1.

Champions Mile 2023 Runner by Runner

1. Mr Brightside

Australia’s best performed miler.  Has two Doncaster’s and an All Star Mile to his name.  Was beaten a nose in the Cox Plate after missing the start.  He’s going to run very well on Saturday.

2. Alligator Blood

Quality horse that just keeps running well.  Was third in the Cox Plate after winning the Caulfield Stakes by a space.  Loves the track and distance and maps for the right run here.  He can win.

3. The Invetitable

Tasmanian who hasn’t had much luck this prep. Ran third in the All Star Mile in the Autumn.  A repeat of that could see him in and around the placings.

4. Bankers Choice

Was a good run in the Toorak two starts ago and draws a nice gate for Johnny Allen.

5. Victoria Road

International who is having first run for Maher and Eustace, previously Aiden O’Brien.  He was safely held in the Cox Plate but I think dropping back to the mile could be in his favour here.  Barrier 1 doesn’t look ideal.

6. Fangirl

Ran a huge new peak winning the King Charles at Randwick.  Was well backed in the Cox Plate off that where she should clearly have been in the finish with even luck.  I would taper it a little bit by saying fence in run was an advantage on the day and she doesn’t look to get an obvious cart into the race here but she is clearly flying and a great winning chance here if she can hold her form.

7. Pride Of Jenni

Good quality mare who backs up after an all the way win in the Group 1 Empire Rose last week.  Expect her to try and lead all the way again here.  This is tougher though,
