Chairman’s Stakes 2023 Race Details
Race 2 at Sandown on Saturday the 4th February 2023.
The Chairman’s Stakes is a 1000 metre set weights plus penalties race for two-year-olds run by the Melbourne Racing Club in late January or early February. It is normally held at Caulfield as one of the feature races of the meeting but is being run at Sandown this year.

Chairman’s Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Soft Weather: Overcast
Nine two year olds have accepted for the $200,000 Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes. Five of them head to the races for the first time. The impressive debut winner Veecee currently holds favouritism just in front of Serasana who also won at her first start. Zulfiqar and Extremely Wicked are the other two in the race under 10 – 1.
Chairman’s Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Zulfiqar
Godolphin colt who won the Maribyrnong Trial in his first preparation. He moved well in his most recent trial and blinkers on for this first up assignment signals good intent. In the mix.
2. Veecee
Justified the strong market support on debut with an impressive 2.5 length victory at Flemington. Comes back 100m in distance here which is a slight concern for me but looks well drawn in barrier six. Leading chance.
3. Serasana
Powered away to win here on debut in early December. Has since been freshened and has jumped out well. Key winning hope.
4. Hells Son
Has had a number of jump outs to get ready for this debut assignment. Shown he has some ability. Could have something on him here 1×3 at a huge price.
5. Perilous Fighter
First starter trained by Clayton Douglas. Stuck on well enough behind Gangitano in Mornington jumpout who is well in commission in Blue Diamond betting.
6. Tacito
Has finished second in two recent Flemington jump outs and has drawn a nice gate. Watch market.
7. Extremely Wicked
Lead and stuck on really well to finish second on debut at the Valley. Big margins there with the third horse since running second in the Blue Diamond Preview. Gets Damian Lane on.
8. Miss Burgoyne
Debutant from the Hayes barn. Both jump outs have been sound.
9. Written Bligh
First starter trained by Graeme Begg. Has moved very nicely in both jump outs. Latest she matched Serasana stride for stride – both were under little riding. Roughie with a chance.
