Lonhro Plate 2023 Race Details
Race 1 at Randwick Racecourse on Saturday the 4th of February 2023.
The Lonhro Plate is a Listed race held at Randwick Racecourse and is run over 1000 metres. It is run under set weight and penalties conditions and is for horses aged two-years-old. The total prize money is $160,000 this year.

Lonhro Plate 2023 Preview
Track: Good Weather: Good
Plenty to learn in this race with every runner either first up or on debut. Sicilian was well in the market on debut in the Gimcrack Stakes and pulled up lame. It has trialled well since and Tim Clark does the steering. Mexico ran well on debut behind the handy Barber. Zulfiqar has a win to its name and Aussie Tom does the steering for the Godolphin camp. Satin And Silk can also improve from its debut run by getting on top of the ground.
Lonhro Plate 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Zulfiqar (6)
Has run well in both efforts to date in open company. Trials have been rock solid and Godolpin are having an excellent season. Right in the mix here with Tom Marquand looking for his first winner of the new year upon arrival from the UK.
2. Capital Heart (9)
Has trialled up well but a wide draw and out of form jockey are both negatives. Respect the market.
3. Mexico (7)
Mexico has handled all surfaces to date and put in a good performance behind the smart Barber since. Infatuation was in for 2nd that day and has come out and won again since but was also a bit poor the other weekend. Hard to get a gauge on the form but worth respecting any market moves.
4. Tawfiq Star (4)
Keep an eye on the market.
5. Madeira Sunrise (3)
Trials have been solid including crossing the line with Sicilian and the latest it was 2 lengths off it. Leaning to the favourite at this stage but with gate 3 and J-Mac book Madeira Sunrise should get every possible chance and looks a great hope in this race.
6. Miss Belgium (5)
Broke maiden last start but this is a huge leap in grade. Prefer others.
7. Portorosa (2)
Trials have just been fair. Keep an eye on the market.
8. Satin And Silk (8)
It was a solid effort from Satin And Silk on debut in the Gimcrack Stakes. That looks the right form for this race and Sam Clipperton is a good booking. The wide draw is the query. Top 3 chance.
9. Sicilian (1)
Sicilian also comes out of the Gimcrack Stakes. It wasn’t disgraced on debut but its worth noting it pulled up lame. With the good draw and Tim Clark it should get its chance, brings in the right form and looks hard to beat against these. On top selection.
