The main race is the $5 million Cox Plate. Read our 2020 Cox Plate Preview.
Young Werther (Moonee Valley Race 6 No. 6)
This Tavistock gelding trained by Danny O’Brien has only had two starts but looks to be well above average. He debuted with a 1.25 length win over 1500m in a 3YO maiden plate at Geelong on 6 September, then went straight to a Listed race. He was held up from the 500-400m and hung in before balancing up to run on strongly and just miss for 0.2 length 2nd in the Super Impose Stakes over 1800m at Flemington on 3 October. He gets the winkers on for the first time and this distance should suit.

This eight-year-old horse has ran 2nd at his last two starts. He drove hard along the rails to just miss over 2040m at Moonee Valley on 5 September, then took over at the 350m , was headed at the 200m and fought hard to the line for a length 2nd in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings over 2510m at Flemington on 3 October. He drops i weight and looks an excellent each-way bet.
