VRC St Leger – 2022

Track: Good Weather: Fine

A race over 2800 metres that’s not for the faint-hearted. The stayers will battle it out and the Waterhouse stable is represented by Zoumon, who does need to find up quite a few lengths on the favourite Alegron who looks very hard to beat coming out of a tight finish behind a star called Hitotsu. Raging Bull can be the big improver and will stay all day while Bastida has been a model of consistency.

1. Alegron (9)

Awfully hard to beat despite the draw. Any luck from the draw and it does look like the winner coming off a tight finish with Hitotsu. That is the right form for this and it deserves to be a clear cut favourite in this field.

2. The Cunning Fox (11)

Has good upside and has been racing very well. Saw out the 2400 last start and see the extra trip as a postive.

3. Raging Bull (7)

Can stay all day and therefore demands respect. Going better than the form reads on paper and looks a top 3 contender.

4. Zoumon (10)

Has over 8 lengths to find on Alegron, that being said does get Tim Clark and a good draw again. Hard to ignore that the Waterhouse stable has won this race 3 of the last 4 years so looks a massive hope off that.

5. Celestial Fury (6)

Does look a little out of depth here considering it is struggling to get another win on the board. That being said, could show up at odds and respecting the placement of the stable.

6. Fighting Arrow (8)

Solid stayer although needs to find lengths to be in the finish here. Wouldn’t completely shock despite not bringing in the strongest form.

7. Asternishing (12)

Can’t have.

8. Bastida (2)

Knows how to win, gets a good draw and finds Jamie Kah so it really is hard to knock its chances and $21 is there for the taking. Solid each way bet.

9. Five Ounce (13)

Can’t have.

10. Morpurgo (5)

Deserves to be long odds.

11. Winston Smurfhill (4)

Can’t have.

12. Sonic The Hedgehog (3)

Not the worst after staying on well in the wet and beating what looked quite a good field. Up a lot in depth here but could run a placing without suprising.

13. Fearentless (1)

Going well enough and finished behind The Cunning Fox last run so it deserves respect however there are a few I prefer in this.
