Toy Show Quality – 2022

Track: Soft 5 – Good 4 Weather: Sunny.

Thirteen runners have accepted for the $200,000 Group 3 Toy Show Quality and there has been one early scratching. The John Thompson stable has two entries in the race whilst the rest of the trainers have just one entry each.

Zapateo holds early favouritism at $4.20 and she is first up. She had a decent preparation in the Autumn, running no further back than fourth in four starts, running two seconds, and winning the Denise’s Joy Stakes.

Bella Nipotina, Jamaea , and Boomnova are all on the second line of betting at $6.50. Bella Nipotina had a decent preparation in the Autumn, highlighted by her winning the Sapphire Stakes. Jamaea didn’t win in her last preparation but she race some bold placings in the Light Fingers Stakes and the Victory Stakes. Boomnova is going for four wins in a row after ending her preparation with a one-length win in the Lightning Handicap.

1. Bella Nipotina (11)

Returning after 91 days. Had a decent preparation in the Autumn, highlighted by her winning the Sapphire Stakes. Despite the record, she does run okay first-up, gets James McDonald aboard, and should be running a bold race. She is entered for Moonee Valley as well.

2. Belluci Babe (3)

Plain in the Missile Stakes. Back to mares grade is beneficial and once again drawn well to make an impression. I can’t have on last start though.

3. Fituese (1)

Returning after 126 days. Had one start in the Autumn for a fifth but then was tipped out to avoid wet tracks. Will appreciate the drying surface and has a tremendous first-up record. Top four chance.

4. Vulpine (7)

Returning after 70 days. Was brilliant first up last preparation when winning the Ortensia Stakes at Scone. Was a bit average in her next two runs in Brisbane. Can see her hitting the line here and a placing wouldn’t shock.

5. Jamaea (6)

Returning after 112 days. Didn’t win in her last preparation but she race some bold placings in the Light Fingers Stakes and the Victory Stakes. She is drawn well and could run a bold race first-up despite an average first-up record. Happy to wait and see how she goes.

6. More Prophets (10)

Returning after 145 days. Will be giving them a start. Can’t have first up with the map.

7. Chill (2)

Returning after 322 days. Won a maiden race in 2021, outside of that she hasn’t done a lot. Can’t have.

8. Miss Dior (13)

She has a fitness edge over her rivals, though she looks outclassed.

9. Boomnova (12)

Returning after 77 days. Is going for four wins in a row after ending her preparation with a one-length win in the Lightning Handicap. Will get back from the draw and I expect her to be hitting the line well.

10. Zapateo (4)

Returning after 98 days. She had a decent preparation in the Autumn, running no further back than fourth in four starts, running two seconds, and winning the Denise’s Joy Stakes. Goes well first up, gets a decent draw and a low weight. One to beat.

11. Sky Command (8)

Returning after 98 days. Looks outclassed.
