Carlyon Stakes – 2022

Track: Soft Weather: Fine

A very quality field engaged. All eyes on Extremely Lucky who is proving to be a genuine star of the future. Bella Nipotina is a model of consistency and will prove hard to hold out while Yulong Command loves this track and will be tough to run past. The chances don’t end there with Showmanship bringing in a touch of class and Generation likewise. The tempo should be strong here.

1. Oxley Road (11)

Didn’t have much luck first up when caught wide. 2/2 over this trip and Luke Nolen in the saddle is a plus. The query has to be the wide draw and this race is no easier than last start. Top 4 contender.

2. Generation (13)

Will need some luck given the wide draw and amount of speed in this race but did win extremely well fresh last prep and is a winner on this track which some of these aren’t. Has the quality to take this out, will just need some luck from the draw.

3. Roch’n’Horse (10)

Not hopeless and caused a big result last prep. I’d be respecting any market moves, albeit the wide draw doesn’t make things easy.

4. Extremely Lucky (6)

Loving the quality of this one. The form stood up with I Am Bene winning in utter fashion last Saturday. It’ll be a matter of luck in running for Extremely Lucky and if it can sit in a good spot without doing too much work and be presented at the right time it will be very hard to hold out. Likeable.

5. Bella Nipotina (7)

Yet to win at the track and probably suited further into its preparation but Bella Nipotina is a quality galloper and this race is within reach. Respect any market moves.

6. Tequila Time (9)

Prefer others.

7. Yulong Command (12)

Absolutely loves this track and is a hard horse to get past when leading but the query here is the wide draw and amount of speed engaged in this race. Can win but will need some luck getting across from the barrier.

8. Mossman Gorge (5)

Has a handy fresh record and will be suited by the fast tempo. Blake Shinn is an eye catching booking and Mossman Gorge is a good roughie provided it gets some luck in running.

9. Showmanship (4)

7 wins from 9 career starts is a very good record and Showmanship has the turn of foot to run over these. Suited by the wide tempo and may just slot into the box seat from the draw. A bit of this race will come down to luck in running but if Showmanship finds the gaps it’ll be very hard to hold out.

10. Mileva (3)

Good run first up but flat next time out. Needs to lift off that and probably prefer in something a touch easier but also wouldn’t completely shock.

11. Esta La Roca (2)

Loves this track and gets first look at leading with a fair bit of speed engaged in this race. I suspect Esta La Roca will have to cop a fair bit of heat up front which is the query, however it loves the track and comes up with a nice draw. Keep safe.

12. Bless Her (8)

Racing well but desperate for another win and this isn’t easier than what it has been contesting in. Hard to catch but also not entirely out of this.

13. The Move (1)

Good horse when things are right but also hard to catch and prefer in something slightly easier.
