Track: Soft-Heavy Weather: Rain

The early scratching of Nothing Compares leaves a field of ten for the $200,000 Tattersall’s Gold Crown.  The early favourite in the betting is the Chris Waller trained Polly Grey.  She won the Lord Mayors Cup here two starts ago and is one of the better wet trackers in the country so connections will be hoping that the heavens open pre race for her!   Next in the betting is La Grisa.  She has had two runs back from a let up over 1800m and looks set to peak here third up at the unusual distance of 2137m.

Zayydani had a confidence building win in class 4 company last start but has shown in the past she has stakes class ability.   Walking Flying is unbeaten on heavy going and will have no problem running out a strong mile and a quarter given she is a daughter of Tavistock.   Windermere has drawn wide but has good gate speed so she should be able to come across and settle outside Maid Of Ore who is the likely leader.  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

1. Polly Grey

Rare bad run last start but there looked to be obvious excuses dropping back in distance and on a good surface.  She is much better with the sting out and looks likely to get those conditions here.  Expect Tommy Berry to find a lovely spot in behind the speed and give her every chance.

2. Maid Of Ore

On the quick back up after appearing to go way too fast out in front in the Ipswich Cup last week.  Should lead again here but looks a place chance at best.

3. Walking Flying

Former Victorian who has been going well for the Edmonds camp this preparation.  He steps back up in trip here and back onto a wet track which looks advantageous.  Is well drawn in barrier  nine to position up midfield and let rip down the centre of the track.

4. Cellarmaid

Never cited here last start against Zaaki and form prior is only fair.  Likely to be giving them a big start from the inside draw.  Not sure about her.

5. Windermere

Maps to come across and sit outside the lead from barrier ten.  She has finished third at both runs this time in and looks set to peak here third up after an easy trial victory in between runs.  Can entertain.

6. La Grisa

Done enough in two runs back from a let up to suggest she is right in this.  Latest she missed the start badly but was still able to pass a few in the run home.  James McDonald going on is a big plus and if she can jump cleanly she should get a lovely run.

7. Zayydani

Lightly raced last start winner.  She was very unlucky in some of her Melbourne runs earlier in the preparation.  Up in grade here but has plenty of talent and maps well.

8. Deepwood Vale

Another last start winner, however that was in a BM 58 at her home track, Scone.  Will need to improve to play a role here.

9. Isabella’s Spring

Very consistent type but is sharply up in grade here.  Appears a big throw at the stumps.

10. Wild Sheila

Ditto for Wild Sheila who is a last start Sunshine Coast winner.  Looks outclassed.
