Tattersall’s Tiara 2021 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

There is a full field of 17 runners plus three emergencies for the $600,000 Tattersall’s Tiara and 10 of them, including two emergencies, had their last start in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes on 12 June, two in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap on 12 June, three in the Sapphire WFA F&M on 5 June and two in the Group 1 TAB Classic on 1 May. Chris Waller has three runners and James Cummings and the Snowdens have two runners each.

The betting is very open and the early favourite is Stradbroke Handicap winner  Tofane who loves this distance. Second favourite is three-year-old Odeum who just missed in the Dane Ripper last start and drops 2.5kg from that run. Third favourite is Savatiano who ran 3rd in this race in 2019, which was the last time it was run as the 2020 race was cancelled due to Covid 19.

Subpoenaed ran 2nd in the TAB Classic then ran on when she got clear for 1.3 lengths 5th in the Stradbroke.  Brooklyn Hustle won the Dane Ripper last start following a win in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes. Sweet Deal finished 8th in the Dane Ripper. Mizzy is having her first run for trainer Annabel Neasham. Nudge has won her last two starts and Madam Rouge was 3rd in the Dane Ripper.  All other runners are currently 20 to 1 or longer.

2021 Tattersall’s Tiara Runner by Runner

1. Tofane

This five-year-old Ocean Park mare ran on late for 1.25 lengths 2nd in the Group 3 BRC Sprint before running on from well back for a 0.5 length win in the Stradbroke Handicap two weeks ago. She carries more weight here but is still one of the main chances.

2. Savatiano

One of two runners for James Cummings, this six-year-old Street Cry has won 13 of her 40 starts. In 2019 she finished 3rd in this race behind Invincibella and she has a great record at this distance. Hasn’t started for 4 weeks but won a recent trial at Rosehill. An excellent chance here.

3. Mizzy

Having her first start for trainer Annabel Neasham. Finished well back at her last two starts in the George Ryder and the TAB Classic but has placed twice at Group 1 level.

4. Flit

This four-year-old from the Godolphin stable has drawn the outside barrier. Unplaced in all four runs his campaign and not expecting that to change here.

5. Madam Rouge

Came from well back in the field to run on well for 0.4, 0.1 length 3rd in the Dane Ripper Stakes. She is one of three runners for Chris Waller and could show up in the finish.

6. Sweet Deal

Won the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown three starts back. At her latest start she finished 3.5 lengths 8th in the Dane Ripper. Goes well at this distance but hasn’t won in four outings to Eagle Farm.

7. Brooklyn Hustle

She won the G3 Proud Miss Stakes at Morphettville by 1.5 lengths before winning the Dane Ripper. Is in great form at the moment and is a winning chance.

8. Subpoenaed

Another Waller runner. She was well back and was hampered at the 400m before running on for 1.3 lengths 5th in the Stradbroke and should have finished closer. At the start before she was 0.6 length 2nd in the TAB Classic. Should be in the finish.

9. Nudge

Comes off two consecutive wins that were both over 1600m. Not sure that coming back in distance will suit, but has to be included as a place chance.

10. Rocha Clock

Won successive races including the Dark Jewel at Scone two starts back before finishing third in the Sapphire at Eagle Farm last start. Has not raced at Group 1 or Group 2 level before and is yet to be proven at this level.

11. Lyre

This four-year-old has not won beyond 1200m. She finished 9th in the Dane Ripper and there are queries over her running out a strong 1400m.

12. Coventina Bay

New Zealand visitor who won the G3 Cuddle Stakes at Trentham before 0.3 length 2nd in the G1 Thouroughbred Breeders at Te Rapa. At her first Australian start she finished 3.2 lengths 7th in the Dane Ripper. Don’t dismiss her.

13. Reelem in Ruby

Drawn in barrier 1. She followed 3rd in the Dark Jewel at Scone with 13th in the Dane Ripper where she was always wide. Rough chance.

14. Yamazaki

Has a win and two 2nds from three starts this campaign. Has a wide gate and has not raced at this level before.

15. Emeralds

Resuming here after 15 weeks. Ran 3rd in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes first-up last preparation.

16. Odeum

One of two 3YOs in the race she has raced nine times for three wins and three places. She is already a Group 1 winner with the Thousand Guineas last October. Last start she was narrowly beaten in the Dane Ripper after covering plenty of ground in the run. One of the main chances.

17. Dame Giselle

This three-year-old has 5 wins and 4 of those were Group 2 races. Has drawn barrier 19 which is no help.

18. Sierra Sue  – 1st Emergency

Gets blinkers on for the first time and will be competitive if she gets a run.

19. Charleise – 2nd Emergency

Has won her last two races in good style but this is a big rise in grade. Put her in the exotics if she gets a start.

20. Jen Rules – 3rd Emergency

Finished 4th in the Dane Ripper. Probably won’t get a start.
