RUSSIAN RONI and BELLO BEAU look the main speed influences in the race and should take up the leader and leader’s back positions. GEEGEES GEMSTONE, JAGUAR STONE and ROYAL AND TOUGH can settle in behind the speed, along with CORNELIAN BAY AND FROLAND. SHARMA’S LAST should follow them in behind.

1. Bello Beau – Rated Price $1.75

Ultimately I think he can either sit outside or on the back of the Waterhouse-Bott runner and prove too strong late here, and move on to the Australian Guineas. Wouldn’t be surprised if he starts in the red and salutes in style for punters.

2. Russian Roni – Rated Price $3.80

Great win last time in at Sandown when controlling and holding on late off a slow tempo. Should lead, but may not be sharp enough late for Bello Beau. If something beats the favourite, I think he is the best chance to do so.

3. Royal And Tough – Rated Price $31.00

Classy horse who has strung together some great performances thus far. This looks a tune up enroute to the Tasmanian Derby.

4. Happy Clan – Rated Price $250.00

Failed to factor last start in similar company. Pilot upgrade but would be very surprised if he’s in the finish.

5. Sharma’s Last – Rated Price $14.00

Flew home last start when having to course wide on the turn in inferior ground. Likely has to go back from the gate but if Froggy Newitt can weave some magic he can run into the minor money without surprising.

6. Cornelian Bay – Rated Price $61.00

Unlikely to trouble the main fancies, but gets a lovely pilot upgrade. Blowout chance?

7. Froland – Rated Price $500.00

Next to no chance. Good luck to connections.

8. Geegees Gemstone – Rated Price $101.00

On-speed runner who showed plenty on debut but then failed to fire on the dirt at Devonport last start. Should appreciate grass surface but I think this sort of test is too early and will likely be run off his feet over the mile.

9. Jaguar Stone – Rated Price $7.50

Finally gets to the mile and the big track at Hobart, off a soft draw. Has always had Bello Beau in her sights but last start failed to make any in-roads until late in the piece. Admittedly got a few favours along the fence late but was very strong to and through the line. Some hope.

Think the current price of BELLO BEAU is too good to pass up. He should control the race up on speed and prove too good late for RUSSIAN RONI.

Provided she gets a good run in transit, SHARMA’S LAST can storm home into the minor placings without surprising.
