Stutt Stakes 2021 Preview
Track: Slow? Weather: Showers
Six colts, two geldings and one filly make up the field for this years $300,000 Stutt Stakes. Two had their last start in the Exford Plate and two met here in a three year old handicap on September 4. Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young saddle up two runners. The early favourite in a wide open betting market is Sandy Prince. He kicked strongly on the turn here last start only to be run down late by Forgot You who is second favourite here.
Mr Mozart won the Exford Plate third up beating Artorius. Prince Alexander has won his last two starts and looks suited stepping out to 1600m second up. Micro scored easily in a Bendigo maiden last start, while Riverplate is on the quick back up after finishing sixth in last weeks Caulfield Guineas Prelude. The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.
Stutt Stakes Runner by Runner
1. Mr Mozart
Good first up in the Vain Stakes, poor second up, then upset the short priced favourite Artorius in the Exford Plate at Flemington last start. Each way chance again here.
2. Daily Bugle
Won the Mornington Sires Produce in March. Worked home okay in the Exford Plate last start but needed to see more to be recommending him as a bet here.
3. Forgot You
Hit the line well first up at Flemington, then rattled off a huge last 400m to win here second up. The extra 100m suits. Expecting him to run well again.
4. Sandy Prince
Has finished in the top two at all four runs this prep. Latest, he looked the winner after kicking clear on the bend but was run down by Forgot You over the concluding stages. Will roll forward again and take some catching.
5. Micro
Found himself too far back first and second up but still ran home strongly. Was able to settle much closer at Bendigo last start and subsequently bolted in by 3.8 lengths. Capable of measuring up.
6. Prince Alexander
Strong maiden winner at Bendigo in May. Returned to the races on September 1 comfortably winning a class 1 at Sandown. Strips fitter here. One of the chances
7. River Plate
Ex New Zealand galloper now under the care of Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young. He stormed home to finish second in a high rating maiden first up at Sandown, then didn’t have the best of luck in last weeks Caufield Guineas Prelude. Gets Oliver here and could be suited on the quick back up.
8. Alpine Aviator
Hasn’t done enough in his two runs to date. Looking elsewhere.
9. Adele Amour
The only filly in the field. She used the bias to win first up at Sandown, then wasn’t disgraced behind the very talented Barb Raider last time. Look for her to role forward from her outside barrier here.
