Schillaci Stakes – 2021

Track: Good? Weather: Shower or two

Eight sprinters are set to line up in the $300,000 Group 2 Schillaci Stakes.  There is one 7 year old, two 6 year olds, two 4 year olds and three 3 year olds.  Two had their last start in the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley while two others are first up.  The early favourite in the betting is the four year old September Run.  She has won three from four at the distance and looks primed to run well coming off a good closing effort in the Moir Stakes.  Next in the betting is Bella Nipotina.  All three of her wins have come at Caulfield including last start in the How Now Stakes.

Savatoxl won the Group 1 Goodwood earlier in the year and goes well fresh.  Dosh is tackling the older horses for the first time and should lead with no weight on her back.  Shaquero ran well in the Moir first up.  Insaurian and Roheryn are trained by James Cummings, while Jigsaw gets an inform Daniel Moor in the saddle.

1. Savatoxl

Resumer who was dominant winning the Goodwood in May.  He has won four of five first up and two from three over the 1100m.  One of the chances.

2. Roheryn

Finished last first up in the Theo Marks at Kembla Grange and only trialed fair in between runs.  Needs to improve.

3. Isaurian

Has been given some time off since finishing third in the Bletchingly Stakes here in July.  He goes well at the distance and should get a good camp in behind the speed in this.  In the mix.

4. September Run

Classy sprinting mare trained by Chris Waller.  She has closed off very strongly in her two runs back over 1000m at Moonee Valley.  Out to 1100m here suits and she gets Williams back on from a good draw.  Major player.

5. Bella Nipotina

Has won two of her last three and was luckless in the other.  The gap didn’t appear until late in the How Now but once it did come she exploded through it.  Back to 1100m shouldn’t cause too many issues.  Rates highly.

6. Shaquero

Second of the Chris Waller runners.  He won the Magic Millions and Pago Pago as a two year old.  Scraped paint first up in the Moir and hit the line okay.  Better suited at 1100m here.  Has a chance.

7. Jigsaw

Blinkers come off again for Jigsaw.  He wasn’t beaten far in the Mckenzie Stakes two starts ago but doubt he is good enough to be winning this.

8. Dosh

Least experienced runner in the field having had just three starts.  She won the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude here as a two year old.  Lead and finished third first up against the three year old’s at Flemington.  Should find the lead here with no weight on her back.  In the mix.
