Carlyon Stakes 2023 Race Details
Race 8 at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Saturday the 26th August 2023.
The Carlyon Stakes is a Listed race held at Moonee Valley over 1000m. It is a set weights plus penalties race for horses aged four-years-old and upwards run by the Moonee Valley Racing Club in late August. The total prizemoney is $175,000 this year.

Carlyon Stakes 2023 Preview
Track: Soft Weather: Fine
Eleven have accepted for the $175,000 Listed Carlyon Stakes. There looks to be good speed in this with a number of runners who like to lead in their races. Omni Man has come up favourite off a luckless run here a fortnight ago. Generation is first up and has been heavily backed in the early betting. WA mare Acromantula boxed on well here first up and may be suited getting onto firmer footing. Sweet Ride is almost double the price of Omni Man and Acromantula despite beating them home last start, while Hypothetical and Snapper resume.
Carlyon Stakes 2023 Runner by Runner
1. Sweet Ride
Had the right run in transit and race shape to win here a fortnight ago. Might end up with another sweet trail here although this is a deeper race. Chance.
2. Snapper
Resumes. Has a strong Moonee Valley record, however his first up record and 1000m record are queries.
3. Ashford Street
Finished off well here first up behind Sweet Ride at a big price. Now gets a big jockey change with Jamie Mott taking over the steering. Place hope.
4. Generation
Quality galloper who has a fourth placing in the Group 1 Moir at this track and distance. He has been jumping out well and has been met with strong early market support. Key player.
5. Midwest – SCRATCHED
6. Express Pass
Resumes from a lengthy lay off. He is a talent on his day and is drawn to get last crack if they over do it in front.
7. Acromantula
Western Australian galloper who ran well here first up. Should only improve off that. Can win.
8. Omni Man
Had won three in a row before a luckless run here behind Sweet Ride a fortnight ago – missed the start and raced in the inferior ground yet still charged to the line to just miss. Think he is suited by the low draw and is a deserved favourite.
9. Little Miss Kubi
Daughter of Headwater. She’s building a handy record but needs to find a length or two to feature here first up.
10. Hypothetical
Strong mare trained by the Freedmans. Like her as a horse but not sure 1000m first up is her go.
11. Sweetened – SCRATCHED
