Track: Good Weather: Chance of a shower

The early scratching of Crowning Moment leaves a field of five two year olds for the $200,000 Listed Blue Diamond Preview (C&G).  Three are colts and two are geldings.   Anthony & Sam Freedman have two runners entered in the race, including the early favourite in the betting, Philosopher.  The son of Zoustar impressed winning here on debut on January 8 and will again be ridden by Damian Oliver.

Next in the betting is Peter Moody’s galloper, Rampant Lion.  He resumes in his second preparation here off the back of two dominant Pakenham jump out wins.  The remaining three runners are first starters and have all shown good ability winning jump outs in recent weeks.

1. Philosopher

Mustered quickly after a tardy start on debut to lead, then offered a good kick at the top of the straight to fend his rivals off.  Overall time and closing sectionals were good.  Will take some catching if he can find the front again here.

2. Rampant Lion

One of two runners with race experience which can often prove telling in two year old races.  He was a good third at his only start in the Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington in October.  Was subsequently spelled and returns to the races here after two dominant Pakenham jump out wins and has Jamie Kah in the saddle.  Major player.

4. Daumier

Second of the Anthony & Sam Freedman trained runners.  Was pushed out to win a Werribee jump out on January 10.  Maps to get a nice run in behind the speed for leading hoop Damian Lane and has been met with good support in early betting markets.

5. Michelotti

Son of Sebring making his debut.  Like what he has done at the jump outs.  Looked to have something to offer behind Counttheheadlights who won at Moonee Valley on Saturday, then was hard held winning a 1000m trial at Moe.  Wouldn’t shock.

6. Thron Bone

Out of the speedy mare Thorsborne.  Showed good acceleration to win a Sandown jump out on January 12.  Maps to get a soft run on the fence for Craig Williams.  Not hopeless.
