Bagot Handicap 2021 Preview

Track: Good   Weather: Fine

A field of 9 horses have accepted for the time honored Bagot Handicap.  The Symon Wilde stable is on fire at the moment and he will saddle up this years favourite – Tralee Rose.  She found the line well here last start and has given every indication she will run out a strong 2800m.  Miyake draws well in barrier 7 and is looking to string together three wins in a row.  Reflect The Stars finished 3rd behind the 2 favourites for this years race and is a very consistent type.

Sin To Win to win started favourite in the Sandown Cup and may not have been suited by a slow tempo.  He can improve back onto his home track.  Wentwood is one of three horses in the race to win at their last 2 starts but he will need to handle a sharp step up in weight if he is to make it 3 in a row.  Djukon is one of 2 Chris Waller runners in this years race.   And Saint Eustace raced with out luck start but was hitting the line hard once in the clear.  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

Bagot Handicap Runner by Runner

1. Wentwood

This 6 year old gelding has had a terrific preparation.  He has won both the Werribee and St Arnoud Cups.  However he does climb sharply in the weights here and loses jockey Damian Lane who has ridden him perfectly to score narrowly at his last 2 starts.

2. Djukon

Djukon comes through the Wentwood form line.  He traveled up to hit the front on the turn and may have got there a touch too early and was left a sitting shot.  It has been a while since he has won but he is certainly a place hope.

3. Sin To Win

This 8 year old gelding is as tough as teeth and has proven he can stay all day.  He won well at this track & distance 2 starts back and a repeat of that run gives him a good chance in this.

4. Miyake

Did a good job to defeat race favourite Tralee Rose over the 2500m here last start.  Is set up to run well again but like Wentwood loses the services of Damian Lane who is riding as well as anyone at the moment.  That is a concern.

5. Tralee Rose

Talented mare who has finished in the top 2 placings at all 4 starts this preparation.  She is a lovely staying type and with Craig Williams booked to ride looks a deserved favourite.  Our on top selection.

6. Reflect The Stars

Very consistent galloper who has run in the top 3 at her last 3 outings.  She has drawn perfectly in barrier 5 and is likely to be there abouts again.

7. Diamondsandbubbles

This is a big step up in class for Diamondsandbubbles.  Doubt he is good enough to be competitive with these.

8. Saint Eustace

Saint Eustace’s 5th last start was much better than it reads.  He was cruising behind the leaders who fell back in his lap causing him to get shuffled right back.  Once clear he was finding the line as good as any horse in the race.

9. Steam Roller

A surprise 3 length winner at Moonee Valley last start.  Will stay all day but may just be outclassed.
