The Bagot Handicap is a 2800 metre set open handicap race run by the Victorian Racing Club in early January, normally New Year’s Day. It is held at Flemington as one of the feature races on the program.

The race was first held as a Principal Race over 13 furlongs (about 2600m) in 1884 and was won by a horse called Archie with Fryingpan 2nd and Boolka 3rd. The following year it was won by Commotion who was the 1882 VRC St Leger winner. In 1973 the distance became 2500m and in 1980 it became a Group 3 race. In 1991 it was downgraded to the current Listed status and in 2009 the distance was increased to 2800m.
