Our Flemington Horse Racing Tips for Friday’s New Year’s Day meeting.

The feature races are the Group 3 Standish Handicap over 1200m (race 4) and the Listed Bagot Handicap over 2800m (race 3).

Nikau Spur (Flemington Race 7 No. 7)

This former Kiwi was an impressive last start winner at Moonee Valley.  He found a midfield position in the run and once John Allan got him into clear air scorched down the outside to win by 3.8L with a big margin back to the 3rd place getter.  He looks ready to peak here 3rd up and is drawn perfectly in barrier 9.

Pres De Toi (Flemington Race 2 No. 11):

Pres De Toi is going really well this preparation.  She ran 2nd to the smart Re Edit 2 starts ago before getting too far back here last time out.  She is now stepping to 2000m which looks to suit and she has won at this distance before.  Look for her charging to the line late at a big price.

Best Lay

Defiant Dancer (Flemington Race 4 No. 8):

Defiant Dancer has made a terrific start to this preparation with back to back wins.  He was particularly impressive to the eye when he won down the straight last start.  However he now has to take the big step up to listed company.  He is poorly weighted and looks under the odds in the early markets.
