Best bet comes up in the first with CAPTAIN DAVE. Pretty simple this one, he went enormous last start against the pattern from a disgusting draw and should get all favours up on speed here drawn Gate 3 with Chelsea Baker on board. I think he’s pretty much a living breathing moral*. Can’t have the opening favourite anywhere near the $2.30 it’s opened up, had all favours on a leaders deck last start.
* I’d probably take red figures if bandages weren’t going on here – no real concern as horse hasn’t had many health issues, and is likely a precautionary gear change.

Buel (Hobart Race 3 No. 14):
BUEL hasn’t been sighted since his trial in November 2021 where he raced green as a grass behind Geegeeluckytar, who’s proven to be a serviceable horse since then. I think they’ve kept him hidden to pull off a cheeky sting and collect the TASBRED bonuses available. Siggy Carr goes straight on from a wide alley, if she can be 3 wide with cover or even up on speed this 2YO could prove hard to hold out.

Tarkine Eagle (Hobart Race 8 No. 3):
Tricky card to find a LAY of the day, but I think I’ll be doing so in the last with opening favourite, TARKINE EAGLE. I do have him marginal favourite in this but this is certainly his hardest task to date, and I could back runners 1,4,6 or even 8 to beat him here – providing it’s a genuinely run race. 1400m probably sees him out and I think there’s enough talent in this field to take him on at the current quote. I’ll be also laying him the place if he remains so short in the market.

Best Bet Typhoon Taavi (Eagle Farm Race 3 No. 3) This mare from the Tony Gollan stable has won her last 2 races by big margins. She has heaps of natural speed and gets a 3kg claim for Tahlia Fenton who has had success on her before. Leading hope. Check

Best Bet Red Red Wine (Echuca Race 8 No. 5) He has been hard to catch lately but was keen on him earlier this prep when he was smashed in the market and ran on well in a higher grade than this. Best Bet Profit Pocket (Ascot Race 2 No. 3) She’s won all 3 starts this campaign at Esperance, Ascot and Pinjarra At her last 2 wins she’s raced outside the leader before taking over for dominant wins. Key Comments The rail is out 8 metres. The track played well last time. Suspect with the rail out that far it may suit those on speed. The best bet looks double the price it should be. Best Bet Cadmus (Caulfield Heath Race 3 No. 1) Hard to beat. Brilliant return up a few grades than this and looks superbly treated in this with the drop in grade.
