Our Randwick Horse Racing Tips for the weekend. The feature race is the Listed January Cup (race 7).

Zing (Randwick Race 3 No. 4)
This four-year-old Zoustar mare trained by Chris Waller has two wins and two place from nine starts. She resumed from a 21 week spell for 0.2, 0.8 lengths 3rd over 1300m at Warwick Farm on 9 December, then found the front at the 320m but the winner was too strong late for a length 2nd over 1600m at Randwick on 26 December. She goes well in soft and heavy going, is fitter now and should win.

Strawb (Randwick Race 9 No. 8):
This five-year-old Fastnet Rock mare trained by Nathan Doyle at Newcastle has four wins and two places from 10 starts. She was slowly away and had to circle wide when 1.3 lengths 2nd over 1300m at Warwick Farm on 9 December, then came from well back and chased hard for 0.8 lengths 2nd over 1300m at Warwick Farm on 23 December with the best overall sectional of the day at the distance. The extra distance and Randwick straight will suit her racing style and she looks a good each-way bet.

Best Lay

Sacramento (Randwick Race 8 No. 6):
This four-year-old Pierro gelding is the early favourite in this BM 78 Handicap over 1800m. At the end of last campaign he won the Listed VRC St Leger over 2800m at Flemington on 25 April, then resumed for 0.5, 0.2 lengths 3rd over 1800m at Randwick on 26 December. This is a very open race and I am prepared to risk him.

Key Comments The track is a synthetic tapeta-based surface and weather has minimal effect on how it races. The rail remains in the true position. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight. Key Comments The best bet is in the first and was explosive on debut. Expecting all to have their chance on this track that usually plays fair. Best Bet What A Cross (Sale Race 1 No. 10) Big finale on debut and looms at likeable odds here. Was smacked in betting then and almost pulled off the plunge when flying to the line. Looks a huge chance here. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Bryce Parker
