This Exceed And Excel gelding trained by James Cummings has 7 wins and 8 places from 21 starts. He resumed after 16 weeks with a 2.25 length win in the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes at this track and distance two and a half weeks ago. From 10 races at this distance he has won three and placed in four. Ho goes well second-up and I think he can win again.

Sovereign Award (Caulfield Race 7 No. 8):
This Shamus Award mare is in excellent form and has won three of her five starts this preparation. She overaced mid-race and was checked when she finished 1.75 lengths 6th over 1600m at Moonee Valley on 5 September, then ran on strongly to charge clear over the last 50m for a 1.35 length win over 1600m at Moonee Valley on 2 October. This years Ladies Day Vase includes some very good mares including last years winner Spanish Reef and Fidelia who placed last year, but I think Sovereign Award looks a nice each-way bet.

Legionnaire (Caulfield Race 8 No.9):
This Stratum gelding is the early favourite for this BM 84 handicap over 1400m. He finished 1.75 lengths, 0.1 lengths 3rd in a BM 78 handicap over 1200m at Caulfield on 19 September then chased steadily for 2.4 lengths 5th in the Listed Paris Lane Stakes over 1400m at Flemington on 3 October. This is a very open race with lots of chances and he doesn’t represent value.
