Horse Racing Tips: Happy Valley, 17th January 2024

Our Happy Valley Horse Racing Tips for Wednesday’s meeting.

There is an 8-race program under the lights at Happy Valley. The rail moves to the C position for the meeting, and there is no rain forecast in the lead-up, which should mean racing will be on a Good surface. The humidity is high which is challenging for competitors.

The first race is at 7.10pm Hong Kong time which is 10.10pm AEST.

Best Bet

M Unicorn (Happy Valley Race 7 No. 12)

He ran on well last start after beginning awkwardly, checked near the 400m and becoming unbalanced. He finished 2 lengths 4th after a lot went wrong but won the races before well. Vincent Ho takes the reins again and he can return to the winners list.

Best Each Way

Ernest Feeling (Happy Valley Race 6 No. 4)

This 6YO is in great form with 2 wins and a close 2nd in 3 runs this campaign – all over this track and distance. The wide draw is some concern but he still looks a nice each-way bet.

Key Comments The feature is the $40,000 City Of Port Augusta Cup over 2300m (race 6) that has already been rescheduled twice. The dirt track is rated good and the rail remains in the true position. Best Bet Regal Rocket (Port Augusta Race 4 No. 1) Kept chasing gamely to take late ground off the winner and finish 2nd over 1498m here last start. Winning chance. Key Comments The track is rated as soft and the rail is +1 metre the entire circuit. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight. Best Bet Es And Es (Hobart Race 3 No. 2) He’s been runner-up at his last 4 starts and is over

He likes to go to the front and then stay there and will be hard to bet. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Jo Jackson Each Way Calico Kid (Carnarvon Race 3 No. 5) Calico Kid ran

Key Comments The track is in the soft range which suits the best bet who has been tough to catch lately but looks a big price stepping down in grade. Best Bet Cross The Rubicon (Hawkesbury Race 8 No. 3) Was a solid run last start when jumping far better and sent to the front. Ridden upside down but didn't mind the tactics. Schofield sticks for the ride, drops in grade and hasn't seen this kind of level for a few years now.
