Our Newcastle Horse Racing Tips for Fridays meeting.

Feature races are the Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup (race 7), Group 3 Tibbie Stakes (race 6) and Group 3 Cameron Handicap (race 8).

Capital Reign (Newcastle Race 4 No. 4)
This three-year-old Capitalist gelding trained by Gary Portelli has three wins and a place from four starts. He showed good speed to lead and was challenged soon after straightening but found another gear in the last 200m and sprinted clear for a soft all the way win over 900m at Scone on 12 August, then he crossed over to lead on the rails and held on for a 0.9 length win over 1007m at Taree on 27 August. A very speedy youngster who should be hard to beat over the 900m sprint.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Bring The Ransom (Newcastle Race 6 No. 3):
This five-year-old Sebring mare trained by Bjorn Baker has six wins and three places from her 21 starts. She kept chasing to prevail in the final stages to win by 0.2 length over 1400m at Kembla Grange on 14 August with the best last 400m race sectional, then she kept chasing for 0.2 lengths 2nd in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes over 1350m at Wyong on 3 September. Goes well on softer going and looks a nice each-way bet.

Best Lay

Silhouette (Newcastle Race 1 No. 4):
This four-year-old Teofilo mare trained by James Cummings has one win and three places from 10 starts and is the early favourite in this 3Y&4YO BM 68 handicap over 1600m. She came from well back in the field for 1.4 lengths 2nd over 1250m at Kensington on 18 August, with the best overall race sectionals, then was looking for a run on straightening and got clear at the 150m to finish 2.5 lengths 6th over 1300m at Kensington on 1 September. Doesn’t win out of turn and doesn’t offer value at the short price.
