Our Ascot Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

The feature race is the Detonator Stakes over 1800m (race 8).

Resortman (Ascot Race 6 No. 4)
This four-year-old Helmet gelding has five wins and three places from 11 starts, and goes well at Ascot. He led narrowly but was outmuscled in the final 100m for 0.88, 0.21 length 3rd over 1230m at Albany on 10 January, then was tiring late but held on for a narrow win over 1200m at Pinjarra Park on 6 February. He is nice and fit and should win again.

Each Way

Baramagic (Ascot Race 7 No. 3):
This five-year-old Blackfriars gelding has four wins and six places from 25 starts, and has been going well in similar races. He peaked in the final 100m to finish 1.72 lengths 5th over 2200m at Ascot on 16 January, then took over at the 1200m and kept working for a 0.54 length win over 2000m at Pinjarra Park on 6 February. He drops 1kg from that run and looks a nice each-way bet.

$7.50

Best Lay

Charleton Ediie (Ascot Race 2 No. 1):
This three-year-old Shooting To Win gelding has four wins and three places from eight starts and is the early favourite in this 3YO handicap over 1000m. He finished 0.8 lengths 2nd over 1000m at Ascot on 31 October, then ran 1.27 lengths 2nd in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes over 1200m at Ascot on 21 November. Resuming from a 13 week break he has not won first-up before and the price looks too short.

Key Comments The track is rated Soft and the rail is +0.5 metres from the 1000m to the winning post and +1.5 metres for the remainder. Best Bet Chilli Jam (Townsville Race 7 No. 16) She is absolutely flying and has won all 4 starts this campaign. She gets a 3 kg claim for Isabella Teh who rode her last start for a 3 length win. Can make it 5 in a row. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Jo Jackson

Key Comments The rail is true. The best bet can land us a win in the first. Best Bet Blue Steel (Quirindi Race 1 No. 3) Has been sound in both efforts to date and this race lacks any depth. The 5th last start is better than it reads on paper and that is in a race much harder than this. Goes in the mix here. Key Comments A big 10 race card takes place. The rail is in 3 metres. The track usually suits those who can sustain a long run to the line. That will suit the best bet who loves racing here and comes up later in the day. Best Bet Swanston (Grafton Race 7 No. 2) Has a booming turn of foot and while Swanston doesn't have the easiest pattern to catch, this track does suit and that shows with the 9 placings from 16

Key Comments The Warrnambool carnival kicks off and the 2?? feature races of day one are the Vobis Gold Strike (race 5) & the Merlin Handicap (race 7). The best bet has a superb first up record and brings in the class factor. The rail is true. Best Bet Claidheamh Mor (Warrnambool Race 8 No. 1) Brings in a brilliant first up record, maps to lead the field and relishes soft conditions. The early price has been taken and this 5yo Gelding has
