Spear Chief Handicap Race Information

The Spear Chief Handicap is a 1500 metre quality handicap race run by the Brisbane Racing Club in late May or early June. It is run at Eagle Farm as part of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

The race was called the Sir Edward Williams Handicap and was changed to it’s current name in 2010 when it was won by Pennacchio. Mostly it has been run over 1500m but was over 1630m in 2015 and 2017,  1400m in 2018 when it was run at Sunshine Coast, and 1350m in 2019 and 2020.

It is held on the same day as the Group 1 Queensland Oaks.
