Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes Race Information

The Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes is a 1200 metre set weights plus penalties race for mares four-years-old and upwards run by the Melbourne Racing Club in early February. It is traditionally held at Caulfield on CF Orr Stakes day as one of the eight black-type races on the day.

The race was first held as the  Hyderabad Race Club Plate over 1200m at Caulfield in 2000 and was won by a horse called Londoloz. In 2001 it was upgraded to a Listed race, then it was upgraded to its current Group 3 status in 2007. In 2002 only it was held over 1600m but has been 1200m in all other years.  For many years it was held at Caulfield on CF Orr Stakes day as one of the eight black-type races on the day, but in 2023 was run over 1300m at Sandown Hillside while Caulfield was undergoing redevelopment.
