Wangoom Handicap – 2022

Track: Soft  Weather: Fine

A race that always captures plenty of attention and all eyes will be on Showmanship who returns with a career record of 7 wins from 8 starts and Damien Oliver is in the saddle. This race is no gimme for it with Chassis making an excellent return from the Maher & Eustace stable. Bless Her launches from a good gate and its best efforts put it right into contention while Paul’s Regret is a classy galloper and flies fresh. There doesn’t look to be many leaders in the race so the pace will only be moderate.

1. Ironclad (16)

Classy galloper that will need to be at its best from barrier 16. Kah jumping off is some concern to it chances but does have the potential to be in the finish.

2. Begood Toya Mother (10)

Likes the soft ground and is 1/1 at the track. One of the better chances at healthy odds.

3. Great Again (17)

Needs to find its old form to figure in the finish. Does fly 2nd up which is some hope to its chances but hasn’t been showing its best. Can’t have.

4. Showmanship (7)

Demands absolute respect for its 7 wins from 8 career starts. Oliver is in the saddle, unbeaten fresh although probably better on top of the ground. Very hard to beat with the only query the soft ground.

5. King Of Hastings (14)

Races very well second-up and John Allen is a great booking. Will need some luck from the draw but is a major player at healthy odds.

6. Poland (15)

Finds a winnable race and has been contesting in harder than this. I’d imagine Childs will be looking to push forward from the draw in a race lacking pace and can give a good sight at odds.

7. William Thomas (13)

Hasn’t been finding its best lately. Would like to see a market push.

8. Frankie Pinot (9)

Lloyd does get along with the horse very well and barrier 9 means it can sit midfield with some cover and be dangerous in this field. Good chance in this.

9. Inn Keeper (11)

Loves racing at this track which is always an advantage. Meech knows the horse extremely well and simply looks above the odds in quite an even race. Looks well placed and should be in the finish.

10. Bless Her (2)

Maps better than a lot of its rivals and best efforts certainly see Bless Her go close. Enjoys the 1200 and is a good chance.

11. Mystery Shot (6)

Has received plenty of early market support. 1/1 at the track and tends to race best fresh. The map looks good and is hard to knock.

12. Paul’s Regret (5)

Has never missed the placings fresh and should be enjoying a nice run from the draw. This looks like a target race and is 1/1 at the track, good hope at odds.

13. Chassis (8)

Returned very well with a strong run. Likeable chance in this at odds and Jamie Kah in the saddle certainly helps.

14. Lady Solly (1)

Can’t have.

15. Triple Missile (12)

Enjoys the trip and has class about it. I couldn’t fit it in the numbers but would be no surprise to see it in the finish.

16. Simply Optimistic (4)

Ran 3rd in this race last year. Can’t have.

17. No Surrender (3)

Long odds and looks out of this.
