​With the early scratching of Magna Mak, there is a capacity field of 14 two-year-olds plus one emergency for the 2024 Sportsbet Oaklands Plate with two colts, 7 fillies and 6 geldings. Five of the runners won their last start. Five of them had their last start in a 2YO Open Set Weights with Penalties race over 1200m at Murray Bridge on 15th June (won by Colmar), two in a 2YO Class 1 Handicap over 1200m at Balaklava on 19th June (won by Big Brute) and two in a 2YO Handicap over 1400m at Sandown Lakeside on 5th June (won by Golden Warrior), while the others came via different races. Two runners are sired by Strasbourg. Trainer Chris Bieg has 3 runners.

The betting is quite open and the early favourite is Dancing Storm who was 2nd at Murray Bridge last start. Second favourite is Omanyala who has a win and a 2nd from his 2 starts. Third favourite is Colmar who won at Murray Bridge at his last outing. Cavity Bay won at Swan Hill last start while Big Brute was an impressive winner at Balaklava at his only start. The rest of the runners are currently over $10.

Has a win and a 2nd from his 2 starts. The latest was 0.8 length 2nd over 1400m at Sandown Lakeside on 5th June.

4. Dyer (7)

Won at Morphettville Parks on debut then was spelled for 15 weeks. Resumed for a disappointing 7th to Colmar at Murray Bridge.

5. Big Brute (14)

Impressive 1.5 length winner over 1200m at Balaklava on 19th June at his only start. Chance.

6. Serinite Illusion (5)

Has raced once for 5th at Morphettville on 1st June. Not the worst.

7. Cavity Bay (10)

Won over 1300m at Swan Hill last start. Genuine chance.

8. Don’t Russia (6)

Debuted with a length win over 1112m at Sale on 11th June. Could surprise.

9. Lovey (2)

Narrow winner at Pakenham to break her maiden at her 5th start. Place chance.

10. Talisay (4)

Resumed from a 16 week spell for 3rd to Big Brute at Balaklava. Will be fitter for that.

11. Bushann (15)

Has 2 places from 3 starts and drawn very wide. Looks tested.
