With the early scratching of Fang It, only 6 two-year-olds remain for the 2023 Oaklands Plate with  one colt, 2 fillies and 3 geldings. Four of the runners won their last start. Two of them had their last start in a 2YO Plate over 1200m at Murray Bridge on 1 July, two in a 2YO BM 62 Handicap over 1300m at Balaklava on 28 June and the other 2 both ran over 1347m at Geelong in a 2YO Maiden Plate on 30 June but in different races to each other.

The early favourite is Dubenenko who resumed from a 16 week spell for a 0.5 length win over 1200m at Murray Bridge. Second favourite is Deadly Press who was a 2.25 length winner over 1347m at Geelong on a heavy track. Third favourite is Proven Correct who ran 2nd to Dubenenko last outing and has placed at all 3 starts. The rest of the runners are currently over $5.

Led all the way for a 2.25 length win over 1347m at Geelong on heavy going on 30 June. That was only his second start and it was a good win.

2. Proven Correct (7)

Trained by Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas he has placed at all 3 of his starts. Finished 0.5 length 2nd at Murray Bridge last start. Should go well again.

3. Solar Mist (5)

Resumed from a 16 week break for a length win over 1300m at Balaklava on 28 June. That was only his second start and should run well.

4. Reel Whiskey (2)

Finished 2nd to Solar Mist last time. Rough chance.

5. Fang It (4)  – SCRATCHED

6. Dubenenko (1)

Went from last to first for a 0.5 length win at Murray Bridge. Has won at this track before and should feature in the finish.

7. Coco Sun (3)

She has only raced once when she was a 0.2 length winner over 1347m at Geelong. In the mix.
