Maribyrnong Plate – 2020

Nine two year olds will line up in the time honored $200,000 Maribyrnong Plate.  Last months impressive Maribyrnong Trial winner Ingratiating is the early favourite in the betting.  He powered through the line to defeat General Beau and there was a big gap back to third. Marine One is having his first start but has jumped out well and has been heavily supported in early markets.

Own the Night is on debut for the inform Maher and Eustace stable and wasn’t knocked around in finishing second in a recent jump out.  Dosh won a three horse jump out at Caulfield and showed good speed there.  Finance Tycoon kicked off his career with a solid second behind General Beau at Flemington.  Gulf of Suez is the second of the Maher and Eustace runners – he has been a big drifter in the early betting.  Treporti started favourite on debut at Bendigo and finished third.

1. Ingratiating

Hard not to be impressed with this two year olds win on debut.  He defeated General Beau who was an impressive debut winner and there was a big gap back to third.  He is the one to beat.

2. Finance Tycoon

Stuck on well on debut to run second after leading and rolling back to the fence.  The blinkers go on here.  He has got an Each Way chance.

3. I am War

Ran fourth to Ingratiating on debut.  Was beaten 7.25 lengths on that occasion and it is hard to see it turning the tables on that horse here.

4. Treporti

This son of I am Invincible ran third at Bendigo on debut after being well supported in the betting.  He may be able to improve on a firmer track but he would still need to improve many lengths to be beating these.

5. Asternishing

Started close to $100-1 on debut at Moonee Valley and finished well down the track.  Can’t recommend.

6. Gulf of Suez

Debutant.  Made ground to finish second in a Caulfield jump out.  From a leading stable so respecting but would of liked to see a little bit more to recommend as a serious winning chance.

7. Marine One

There has already been some good market support for this son of Capitalist.  He looked very strong in his Caulfield jump out and leading rider Mark Zahra is booked to ride.  He is a genuine winning chance.

8. Own The Night

Cruised around to run second in a jump out on the 29th September.  The winner of that jump out ran down the track at its first start.

9. Dosh

Dosh showed nice speed to lead and win her jump out.  That jump out was the quickest time of the morning and we often see two year old races won by those horses close to the speed.
