Chairman’s Stakes 2022 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Ten two year olds have accepted for the $200,000 Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes.  Five colts and five fillies make up the field.  Four are on debut and two are sons of Capitalist.  The early favourite in the betting is the resuming James Cummings trained colt Renosu.  He was placed at both starts in his first preparation and gets Damian Oliver in the saddle for this.  The second favourite is Sebonack.  He is trained by team Hawkes and has shown plenty of ability at the jump outs.

Equivocal was fourth in the Inglis 2 year old race at Moonee Valley on debut.  Bay Thirteen has won two recent jump outs.  Mrs Patmore was second at Canberra on debut and gets Linda Meech in the saddle for this second up assignment, while Nanagui is yet another talented two year old set to be unleashed by master trainer Peter Moody.  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

Chairman’s Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Demon Award

Debutant trained by Danny O’Brien.  Travelled sweetly in behind them in a recent Flemington jump out and was never let off the bridle.  Watch betting.

2. Lonsdaleite

Finished eight of eleven in the Debutant Stakes at Caulfield on October 9.  Found the line okay under riding in a recent Cranbourne jump out but prefer others off what we have seen to date.

3. New Hampshire

First starter from the Michael Moroney barn.  Was a narrow winner of a recent Flemington jump out.  In the mix.

4. Renosu

Godolphin colt.  Ran third here on debut, then was second in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington before being sent for a spell.  Resumes in second preparation with two very solid jump outs under his belt and doesn’t have to be far away here from barrier three for Damian Oliver.  Major player.

5. Sebonack

$260,000 yearling trained by team Hawkes.  Got back and trucked to the line beautifully to win jump out on January 21, then jumped out with race favourite Renosu on January 28 and was a strong closing second.  Gets Jye McNeil for this first up assignment.  Big danger.

6. Bay Thirteen

First starter trained by Matt Laurie.  Has shown good ability winning two recent jump outs at Pakenham and Mornington.  Each way claims.

7. Equivocal

Sound effort when fourth in the Inglis 2 year old race on debut at Moonee Valley.  Another of these who has been jumping out well in recent weeks.  In the mix.

8. Kiko

$720,000 Magic Millions purchase.  Was safely held on debut here at the end of November.  Can’t recommend.

9. Mrs Patmore

Filly trained by Annnabel Neasham at Warwick Farm.  Only found one better on debut at Canberra on January 21.  Tricky horse to line up but respecting the stable.

10. Nanagui

Debutant trained by Peter Moody.  One 600m jump out makes this a very hard horse to assess.  Watch betting.
