Colin Stephen Quality Race History

The race was first held in 1870 as a Principal Race at Randwick Racecourse called the AJC Spring Stakes and was won by a horse called Illumination.In 1939 it was renamed the Colin Stephen Quality Handicap. It was a Listed race from 1979 to 1982 then a Group 3 race for 1983 and a Listed race from 1984 to 1986. From 1987 onwards it has held it’ current Group 3 status.

It is also known as the Queen’s Cup in 1976, 1983, 1988 and 2006.
