Tea Leaves (Newcastle Race 6 No. 1)
This two-year-old Sebring colt trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott has raced twice. He debuted with 5.93 lengths 7th over 1000m at Canberra on 5 February, then showed a lot of improvement to chase hard for a 0.08 length 2nd over 1300m at Wyong on 25 February. He had the best overall race sectionals when he just missed last start and is ready to win

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Ballistic Moon (Newcastle Race 5 No. 6):
This three-year-old gelding trained by Gary Portelli has one win and two place from seven starts. At the end of last campaign he winded late for 6.1 lengths 7th over 1000m at Kembla Grange on 14 November, then resumed after 14 weeks for a 0.75 length win on a heavy track over 900m at Newcastle on 20 February. That was a great win and he looks a nice each-way bet at the same track and distance.

Best Lay

Cascadian (Newcastle Race 7 No. 1):
This six-year-old gelding trained by James Cummings is the early favourite in the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket which is the feature race of the meeting. He charged home out wide for 0.2 length 2nd in the Group 1 Kennedy Cantala over 1600m at Flemington on 31 October, then chased hard for 2.8 lengths 5th in The Gong over 1600m at Kembla Grange on 21 November. Resuming from a 14 week spell he can go well first-up, but others offer better value.

Horse Racing Tips: VIC Friday 26th April 2024

Key Comments The rail is true. The best bet is on earlier in the day and has been brilliant in its trials. Confident on its chances at what is still a back-able price. Best Bet Night People (Cranbourne Race 2 No. 4) Has been superb in trials and looks very hard to beat here fresh. Newitt steers so expecting some front running tactics and showed plenty in the tank in a most recent trial when hitting the front early. Likeable odds and expecting
