Our Ascot Horse Racing Tips for Wednesday’s meeting.

Harmika (Ascot Race 2 No. 5)
Harmika has a win and two places from her three starts. At the end of last campaign this Rogano Filly tried hard for 1.5 lengths 3rd over 1200m at Belmont on 11 September, then was spelled for 22 weeks. The three-year-old resumed for an easy 2 length win over 1000m at Belmont on 16 February and can win again over the same distance.

Each Way

Critical Altitude (Ascot Race 5 No. 4):
This four-year-old Exosphere mare has five places from eight starts and has been runner-up at all three runs this campaign. She led until overhauled in the final stride for 0.1 length 2nd over 1000m at Belmont on 2 February, then was headed at the 250m and fought on for 2 lengths 2nd over 1000m at Belmont on 16 February. Drawn beautifully in barrier 1 and is a solid each-way bet.

Best Lay

Friar Away (Ascot Race 8 No. 1):
This eight-year-old Blackfriars gelding trained by Justine Erkelens is the early favourite in this No Metro Wins Last Year Handicap race over 2200m. He was going well but faded in the final 200m to finish 3.5 lengths 8th over 2000m at Pinjarra Park on 6 February, then joined in approaching the home turn to finish a length 2nd over 2200m at Ascot on 19 February. With only 4 wins from 46 starts I’m willing to risk him here.

Key Comments The track is rated Soft and the rail is +0.5 metres from the 1000m to the winning post and +1.5 metres for the remainder. Best Bet Chilli Jam (Townsville Race 7 No. 16) She is absolutely flying and has won all 4 starts this campaign. She gets a 3 kg claim for Isabella Teh who rode her last start for a 3 length win. Can make it 5 in a row. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Jo Jackson

Key Comments The rail is true. The best bet can land us a win in the first. Best Bet Blue Steel (Quirindi Race 1 No. 3) Has been sound in both efforts to date and this race lacks any depth. The 5th last start is better than it reads on paper and that is in a race much harder than this. Goes in the mix here. Key Comments A big 10 race card takes place. The rail is in 3 metres. The track usually suits those who can sustain a long run to the line. That will suit the best bet who loves racing here and comes up later in the day. Best Bet Swanston (Grafton Race 7 No. 2) Has a booming turn of foot and while Swanston doesn't have the easiest pattern to catch, this track does suit and that shows with the 9 placings from 16

Horse Racing Tips: VIC Tuesday 30th April 2024

Key Comments The Warrnambool carnival kicks off and the 2?? feature races of day one are the Vobis Gold Strike (race 5) & the Merlin Handicap (race 7). The best bet has a superb first up record and brings in the class factor. The rail is true. Best Bet Claidheamh Mor (Warrnambool Race 8 No. 1) Brings in a brilliant first up record, maps to lead the field and relishes soft conditions. The early price has been taken and this 5yo Gelding has
