At the end of last campaign he was slowly away then finished a disappointing 7th of 9 over 1250m at Morphettville Parkson 11 June and went for a spell. After 29 weeks he peeled out as the widest runner and came home strongly for 2nd over 1000m at Murray Bridge on 2 January.Gets the winkers on for the first time and looks a strong chance here.

This eight-year-old hasn’t finished worse than 5th from 4 starts this campaign, and has been runner-up twice. He battled evenly for 6 lengths 4th over 1300m at Bordertown on 11 December, then really hit the line hard for 0.6 length 2nd over 1200m at Naracoorte on 29 December. The extra distance should be in his favour and he looks a nice each-way chance.

This 4YO mare trained by Ken Sweeney is the early favourite in this Fillies and Mares Benchmark 56 Handicap over 1400m. She resumed from a 19 week spell for 2 lengths 2nd over 1200m at Gawler on 7 January but will carry 7 kg more here. That is a big weight increase and I’m prepared to risk her.
