Junction (Eagle Farm Race 7 No. 5)
This six-year-old Real Saga gelding trained by Mark Currie at Toowoomba has eight wins and 10 places from 35 starts. He didn’t seem to like the heavy going when he finished 3.8 lengths 7th in the Listed Australian Turf Club Trophy over 1400m at the Gold Coast on 13 March, then was going well until hampered at the 150m and getting swamped late for 0.7 length 4th over 1400m at Eagle Farm on 3 April. He drops 3kg from that run and should fight out the finish.

Bonaparte (Eagle Farm Race 9 No. 6):
This five-year-old Pierro gelding has three wins and eight places from 18 starts and has won two of five starts this campaign. He led into the straight but was run down late for 0.5 length 2nd over 1650m at Doomben on 3 March, then faded late for 2.05 lengths 4th over 1600m at Eagle Farm on 20 March. He comes back to 1400m here and is worth an each-way bet.

Kylease (Eagle Farm Race 8 No. 5):
This five-year-old Choisir mare is the early favourite in the Listed Ascot Quality Handicap over 1000m. She didn’t handle the heavy track when 10.9 lengths 7th over 1100m at Gold Coast on 13 March, then hit the front at the 250m but was run down late for 0.3 length 2nd over 1000m at Eagle Farm on 3 April. This happened at her previous run over 1000m at Eagle Farm and I am prepared to risk her here.

Key Comments The track is in the soft range. The best bet comes up in the first and will appreciate a large drop in class and a kind draw. Best Bet Spiritchaser (Ballina Race 1 No. 2) Looks superbly placed dropping grade and coming up with a kind draw and the senior jockey on board. Should be able to kick the day off on a high note. Key Comments The best bet comes up in the Highway and has been honest recently. Can get the job done at huge odds from the good draw with the young apprentice aboard. The feature race is the January Cup (race 7). Best Bet Swift Charm (Rosehill Race 2 No. 2) Likeable last start second and has been in Highway company a few times in the past. Not hopeless against these and has come up huge odds with the good draw and light weight.

Key Comments Quality day of racing with a 10 race card. The best bet is looking for four straight and will be a popular elect with punters. Best Bet Samangu (Flemington Race 4 No. 5) In flying form and looking for four straight. Not often are runners in this situation and finds a suitable field.
