Our Canberra Racing Tips for Tuesday’s meeting on Melbourne Cup day.
Best Bet
Prophet’s Pride (Canberra Race 8 No. 7)
This four-year-old Divine Prophet mare trained by Matthew Kelley has three wins and two places from eight starts. She resumed for a 1.8 length win over 1100m at Bathurst on 18 October, where she got a nice trail on the rails behind the speed and drove through a gap in the last 100m to finish best. Has won on Soft and on Heavy going and will be tough to beat.

Each Way
Almost Persuaded (Canberra Race 9 No. 3)
Rob Potter trains this five-year-old Casino Prince mare who has three wins and seven places from 14 starts. She finished a length 3rd over 1200m on a Heavy track at Moruya on 30 September, then worked to the outside rail when straightening and took over for a 3.4 length win over 1400m on a Heavy track at Goulburn on 11 October. The track conditions won’t worry her and she should at least place here.

Best Lay
Sandastan (Canberra Race 2 No. 1)
This four-year-old Epaulette gelding trained by Richard Litt at Warwick Farm is the early favourite in this BM 60 Handicap over 2000m. He is going well but doesn’t look like a wet-tracker, and as I write this in Canberra on a monday afternoon the rain has been falling all day and the ground is waterlogged. He has top weight of 59.5kg to lug around in the mud, and in these conditions I am prepared to risk him.

Horse Racing Tips: NSW Tuesday 15th October 2024
Key Comments A small 7 race card takes place. Expecting Andrew Mallyon to be the jockey to follow as he rides mostly favourites for the card. Expecting all runners to have their chance on this track. Best Bet Written Fame (Murwillumbah Race 6 No. 5) Written Fame is a consistent runner who is yet to miss the top 4 this prep. This 4yo Gelding is 2/3 on this track and has won fourth up in the past. The only niggle is its record
Horse Racing Tips: NSW Monday 14th October 2024
Key Comments The track is in the good range. The best bet looks very hard to beat with Andrew Gibbons aboard and has been subject to some very strong early market support. Best Bet Calga Power (Tamworth Race 2 No. 9) Strong effort on debut when running a commendable fourth and should get every hope from the solid draw in this. Maps for a tidy run, Gibbons sticks, drops in grade and looks very hard to beat as the market suggests. Check odds
Horse Racing Tips: Hong Kong Sunday 13th October 2024
Key Comments There are 10 races for the Sunday meeting and the feature is the Group 2 Sha Tin Trophy over 1600m (race 7). The rail is in the A+3 position and the weather is fine so the track will be good. The first race is at 12.35 pm Hong Kong time which is 3.35 pm AEST. Best Bet Charmander (Sha Tin Race 4 No. 6) Won at this track and distance when fresh then ran 2nd over1600m last start where he peaked
Horse Racing Tips: NSW Sunday 13th October 2024
Key Comments The track is in the good range. The best bet resumes off a break and has been heavily backed with conditions to suit. The feature race is the Coonamble Cup (race 7). Best Bet Jessandi (Coonamble Race 6 No. 8) Big hope resuming for the new stable and the early market support is a great sign, as is the push of Bullock riding. Can take this out on resumption and gets conditions to suit. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Bryce
