Adelaide Strikers v Melbourne Stars @ Adelaide Oval
The Strikers and the Melbourne Stars meet for the first time this season tonight at the Adelaide Oval.
The Stars have slipped to 7th on the BBL table after yet another loss in their rain affected game against the Brisbane Heat at Metricon on the Gold Coast. Their bowlers had a wet ball to contend with, which is never easy, but again bowled poorly and the target set by the Heat was a near impossible one for the Stars batters.
The Strikers have had a very up and down season. They went down to the bottom ranked side the Renegades on Friday night. In an upset in front of their home crowd they set the visitors 177 to win and would of have been disappointed they were not able to defend that score against a struggling Renegades line up.
I suggested a bet on the consistent and classy Alex Carey the other night in the most runs market and that’s the way I want to tackle this game again. He made 42 only to be surpassed by Phil Salt with 59. Carey is clearly the Strikers best batsman and at $4 continues to represent value in this market.
Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes @ Optus Stadium (Perth)
The Hurricanes are looking to bounce back from 2 straight losses. Speedster Riley Meredith missed the Hurricanes last game and will likely return. He is suited by the quick bouncy Perth wicket but the “Canes” have the task ahead of them here. They are in desperate need of some runs from Darcy Short at the top of the order. The man who has been a model of consistency in previous BBL seasons has struggled for runs this season.
After their 4th win in as many games the Perth Scorchers are now the favourites to win BBL 10 with the bookies. The Scorchers are relishing playing in front of their home crowd as is Colin Munro who made his 3rd consecutive 50 on Saturday night. Ashton Turner was also very good with the bat, he made a quick fire 31.
However it was Jhye Richardson who was rewarded with the man of the match for his 20 off 8 balls and 4/24 with the ball. A performance that would of recaptured the eye of the Australian selectors.
I see no reason why the Scorchers won’t make it 5 in a row and in doing so will move into the top 3 on the table.
