This race is the main race of the year for the Sale Turf Club and is held on the last Sunday in October where it is the feature event of the meeting. It has been a Listed race since 2014 but has a long history. It has been at the current distance of 1600m since 1988 but was 2200m from 1979 to 1987, 2025m in 1978 and 1700m up to 1977. Very few mares have won this race.
