The Galaxy – 2021

Track: Soft-Heavy Weather: Fine

There are fourteen acceptors for the $700,000 Group 1 Galaxy.  Five of these had their last start in the Challenge Stakes at Randwick while two others had their last run in the Maurice McCarten Stakes at Rosehill.  There are five last start winners in the field.  The early favourite in the betting is the James Cummings trained Tailleur.  She has won six of her eight starts including her last start in the Triscay Stakes and carries just 51kg here.  The second favourite is Haut Brion Her.  She ran fifth in The Everest and is the only horse resuming in the race.

Wild Ruler and Eduardo were both convincing first up winners.  Eduardo carries 57kg while Wild Ruler has just 51kg.  Jonker won the Magic Millions Sprint on the Gold Coast in January but has just one placing from five attempts at Rosehill.  Dirty Work was a great run in the Oakleigh Plate and can improve second up.  Fabergino has won three of her last four starts and is now with Chris Waller.  Easy Eddie has a strong record at this distance while renowned “mud lark” Jungle Edge will be hoping the rain keeps falling!  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

1. Eduardo

Fought back strongly to win the Challenge Stakes at Randwick first up.  He has won 4 of his 5 starts on rain affected tracks.  One of the major players.

2. Dirty Work

Winner of 5 of his 18 starts.  Was arguably the run of the race in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate making significant ground in the worst section of the track.  A leading chance here.

3. Fabergino

Former Western Australian who is now with Chris Waller.  She impressed in a recent Rosehill trial and has won three of her last four starts.  Another who is right in this.

4. Haut Brion Her

Resumes. Lightly raced 5 year old mare who is still on the way up.  She ran fifth in The Everest, then second in the $1,000,000 Yes Yes Yes Stakes.  She has won two recent trials and loves wet conditions.

5. Jungle Edge

Not sighted in the Challenge first up but that was on a good track.  He grows a leg in the wet.

6. Order Of Command

Resumed with a solid third at Rosehill.  Can handle these conditions but lacks the class to be a genuine winning chance here I think.

7. Easy Eddie

Another who has no problem handling wet conditions.  He is drawn to get a soft run on the fence.

8. Jonker

Has had a break since winning the Magic Millions Sprint by 1 length in January.  Looks out classed here.

9. Splintex

Has been out of the placings at his last five go’s, however was luckless at his last start.  A wide draw makes things tough.

10. Bella Vella

Finished third in the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley last September and she ran on okay to finish third behind Eduardo last start.

11. Fiesta

Competitive mare at Group 3 & Listed level.  Not sure she has the talent to be winning here but she will appreciate a strong tempo.

12. Tailleur

This daughter of Shooting To Win doesn’t know how to run a bad race.  She has finished in the top 2 at all 8 career starts.  She is unbeaten at this track and draws perfectly in barrier 6.

13. Wild Ruler

Justified a short quote to win the Fireball Stakes at her last start.  She looks to have gone to a new level this preparation and is a major contender here.

14. The Odyssey

Queenslander who struggled in the Challenge Stakes.  Looks unlikely here.
